SUMMARY:Join us for Technical Presentation: High Altitude Water Transportation
DESCRIPTION:At the 80th CDDA AGM and Convention in Quebec City\, May 25-27\, 2025\, Alexander Christie from Drillware Tools will present High Altitude Water Transportation. \nAlexander Christie\, a Professional Engineer\, will examine the complexities and specialized requirements of high-altitude water transportation. Diamond drilling at high altitude presents unique challenges for water delivery to the drill. At the request of a client\, Drillware tools built a water transportation system that would move 240\,000 cubic meters of water per day to 2\,600m\, gaining 374m of elevation. The system required creative solutions to reliably transport water across a region of extreme weather and permafrost. Alex’s presentation will explore the unique challenges and creative solutions implemented to complete the project. \nAlexander Christie entered the industry as a high school student sweeping the floors for Atlas Copco Exploration Products in their Drill Assembly plan in North Bay\, Ontario. Alex progressed from there to building drill heads\, and eventually drills. During his undergraduate studies he worked in their engineering department. After graduation Alexander moved west to join the team at Hy-Tech Drilling and started their Research and Development Department. \nAlex brings a wealth of experience as a presenter to the CDDA AGM and Convention. He presented at the Resources for Future Generations Conference about closed loop diamond drilling\, he has participated in panels discussing innovations in northern British Columbia\, and he regularly participated in online corporate presentations with as much as 400 people in attendance. \nRegistration is still open for the 80th CDDA AGM and Convention! Don’t miss your chance to attend this exciting event and catch Alex’s insightful presentation on High Altitude Water Transportation. \nSign up today: https://www.cdda.ca/convention-registration/

SUMMARY:From Awareness to Action: Developing Mining’s Talent Pipeline\, Technical Presentation with Ryan Montpellier\, Executive Director MIHR
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a Technical Presentation From Awareness to Action: Developing Mining’s Talent Pipeline\, Technical Presentation with Ryan Montpellier\, Executive Director MIHR at the CDDA AGM and Convention May 25-27\, 2025. This presentation will take place May 27\, 2025. \nRyan has over 20 years of experience in identifying and addressing human resources and labour market challenges in the Canadian mining industry. Appointed as Executive Director in 2008\, he leads all of MiHR’s strategic activities and represents the Council on various industry and government committees and advisory panels. Ryan is a past recipient of the Canadian Institute of Mining – Young Leadership Award and the International Association of Business Communicators Gold Quill award. He is a regular speaker and panelist at industry conferences and events and was a past Distinguished Lecturer for the Canadian Institute of Mining\, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM). Prior to joining MiHR\, Ryan held various leadership positions with high-tech companies in the Ottawa region. Ryan holds a number of degrees including an MBA and a Project Management Professional (PMP) designation. \nRyan’s presentation will emphasize key Mining Industry Human Resources Council (MiHR) initiatives\, including actionable steps\, tools and resources available to stakeholders to grow and develop industry’s talent pipeline. Mining faces a tight labour market\, an increasingly significant obstacle for mining employers. It drives up recruitment costs\, wages and increases talent poaching among companies. Additionally\, with changing geo-political and trading alliances\, Canada needs to rapidly develop its critical mineral capacity to support itself and its allies. Canada is well positioned to produce some of these key minerals and metals but requires a highly skilled and mobile workforce to be able to capitalize on these opportunities. MiHR Initiatives include: \nPrioritizing Career Awareness Among Youth: \nYoung people today are searching for careers that align with their skills\, passions and values. MiHR’s Mining Needs You campaign focuses on empowering youth to see how they can make an impact in a sector that fuels the modern world. It addresses the lack of awareness and negative perceptions of mining\, supports industry recruitment initiatives\, and aligns with Canada’s critical minerals strategy and minerals and metals plan. \nTraining New Talent and Upskilling the Current Workforce: \nThe demand for skilled workers in the mining sector is increasing\, yet many mining-centric post-secondary programs are experiencing declining enrollments or are being offered less frequently. MiHR’s nationally standardized\, industry-validated and adaptable training programs are designed to teach both foundational and technical skills\, as well as provide upskilling necessary for competence in mining occupations. \nPromoting Respectful and Inclusive Workplaces: \nThe mining industry has historically faced significant difficulties in attracting and retaining talent from diverse groups\, including women. Funded through Women and Gender Equality Canada (WAGE)\, MiHR is leading an initiative to support the implementation of Mining Association of Canada Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM) protocols by developing and implementing gender inclusion policies\, tools\, training and resources to help address workplace culture and systemic barriers facing women in the mining sector. \nThere’s still time to register to join us for this event; register at: https://www.cdda.ca/convention-registration/

SUMMARY:Join us for Technical Presentation: Innovation(s) in Drillhole Surveying Technology- May 26\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:At the 80th CDDA AGM and Convention in Quebec City\, May 25-27\, 2025\, Benjamin St Onge from Axis Mining Technology will present Innovation(s) in Drillhole Surveying Technology. \nHis presentation will focus on the design and deployment of new drillhole surveying technology\, with focus on workflow integration\, cost savings and with safety in mind. New gyro hardware of increasing power and decreasing size is enabling more powerful measurement on drill sites\, with electronics designed into in hardware packages that are increasingly more workflow integrated – improving safety & productivity alongside measurement quality. \nThe new integrated design(s) eliminates and/or decreases exposure to typical hazards associated with driller operated surveying technologies and also\, strengthen the software-enabled workflows that improve the quality of onsite measurements and enable better progress & quality tracking by geology teams. \nBen St Onge is a registered professional geoscience in the province of Ontario as well as a health and safety practitioner. He has over 15 yrs of experience in mineral exploration and diamond drilling\, which pertain to operation and consulting on of a variety deviation and geophysical downhole instruments and application within Canada and the Americas. This includes developing safe and effective deployment procedures of new downhole instruments and survey applications. \nRegistration for the 80th CDDA AGM and Convention is still open\, join us at https://www.cdda.ca/convention-registration/
