Northern College: Underground Hard Rock Miner Common Core

Northern Training Division has partnered with Kidd Operations to offer the new Underground Hard Rock Miner Common Core program through the Northern School of Hard Rock Mining. Confederation College Mining Techniques 

Confederation College’s Mining Techniques one-year certificate program gives you the basics of working in the mining industry. The program touches on a variety of subjects including prospecting and surveying, mine development and operations, open-pit and underground mining methods, types of ore bodies, and computer-aided design (CAD). You’ll also learn other skills you’ll need to succeed in today’s mining industry including occupational health and safety, team building skills, supervisory skills, and computer skills.

Canadian Driller Training Ltd  Common Core

The province of Ontario has the only recognized Common Core program for surface and underground diamond driller certification in Canada. It is recocognized by Newfoundland, Manitoba, Saskatkewan, Alberta and British Columbia, the Northerwest Territories, Yukon and Nunavit.

Infrastructure Health & Safety Association Surface Miner Common Core

The Surface Miner Common Core is designed to meet the legislated requirements of the first three modules of the Surface Miner Program. Main topics include, Safe work practice, Lockout/tagout procedures , Safe operation of hand and power tools. It is important to note that to become fully accredited by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU) under the Surface Miner Program, participants must return to their workplace and demonstrate their skills and their understanding of the company’s specific requirements—including government legislation, company standards, and manufacturer specifications—to a qualified trainer and be signed off and registered with the MTCU by their company’s signing authority.

The Surface and Underground Diamond Driller Assistant Common Core Program was developed by NORCAT in
compliance with the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges, and Universities (MTCU) standards. Upon successful
completion of this program, each trainee will obtain accreditation and will be registered with the MTCU for Surface
and Underground Diamond Driller Assistant (#770200 and #770150).

This five-week (200 hours) program combines both theory and practical hands-on, experiential learning in
an operating mine environment. Trainees will learn to operate various pieces of equipment and the safety
requirements and government guidelines that you must understand to successfully complete the program.

1.1 Train the Trainer

This is a four-day course put on by Workplace Safety North in North Bay. This is usually taken by highly skilled, competent and experienced people who have been accredited with all required Common Core and Specialty modules.

Trainer
A trainer must be a highly skilled and competent person. He must be certified in the common core program and specialty modules that he will be instructing. He will have to complete a certified training the Trainer Course, be familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, be trained in the company standards and procedures and be able to convey the material successfully to the trainees.

Signing Authority
A signing authority is an employee that has been designated by employer and authorized by the MTCU to be accountable for the quality of training, maintenance of training records and determining the competency of company employees for modular accreditation.
