Seeking: Health, Safety and Environmental Coordinator

Duties and Responsibilities
As an integral part of our health, safety and environmental team and in conjunction with the operations team, you will be responsible for the promotion and delivery of the health, safety and environmental policies and program, as well as enforce local, provincial and federal legislation. Actively participate with clients and workers to ensure that health and safety are incorporated into daily planning and activities.

Essential Functions: 

As a health and safety coordinator your duties will include but are not limited to: • Oversee all Health and Safety matters on project sites, buildings and future projects
• Participate and provide guidance to the Joint Health and Safety Committee as a certified member
• Assist in the development/revising of the health and safety policies and procedures to ensure that they are up to date with current legislative requirements
• Prepare, deliver and organize training programs
• Liaise between clients, management and workers all health and safety concerns
• Conduct regular site inspections of equipment and work crews
• Identify health and safety hazards and controls in the workplace and jobsites
• Conduct incident investigations
• Write literature and instructions for near miss for all crews to review
• Participate in pre-job meetings to assess any safety concerns and logistics
• Review contractor/client pre-qualifications
• Ensure that all crews are trained to perform the scope of work tasked
• Conduct periodic assessments of workers safety performance
• Assist and participate in acquiring COR certification
• Ensuring that all workers have properly maintained and appropriate PPE for the scope of work tasked

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Thorough knowledge of the OHS Act, construction and mining regulations
• Managerial skills for working with multiple work crews in the construction industry
• Knowledge of research practices to investigate applicable local, provincial, federal and foreign laws and regulations regarding the scope of work tasked
• 2 years’ experience in a health and safety role or equivalent education from a recognized institution
• Ability to communicate effectively with clients
• Management/supervisory experiences
• Ability to assist in obtaining and maintaining COR certification
• Ability to obtain clearance to work on security sensitive sites
• Clean drivers abstract
• Valid Driver’s class G license
• CRSP, CSO or CSP professional designation an asset
