Canadian Addiction Treatment Centres (CATC)

CATC’s inpatient and virtual programming is evidence-based and grounded in behavioural therapy modalities, which are an established best practice in addictions treatment and well suited to addressing co-occurring disorders. Group programming is primarily drawn from CBT and DBT therapeutic techniques, which promote greater cognitive understanding, emotional regulation, and behavioural changes essential for long-term recovery from addictions. Treatment is trauma-informed and developed with an understanding that many people in treatment have experienced trauma so this must be acknowledged during treatment.

Our inpatient group programming consists of a combination of psychoeducational programming, skills practice groups, process groups, recreational activities, and community-based groups (including 12-step groups) delivered daily.

Our virtual group programming consists of a morning skills practice group and an afternoon process group Monday through Friday.

Our Family Healing Program consists of two 90 minute process group sessions and weekly individual psychotherapy.

Clients attending CATC inpatient and virtual programming also receive individualized care through the development of a person-centered treatment plan that draws from the client’s own existing knowledge, skills, and resources to develop goals and a plan for action. Person-centered treatment is a best practice for addictions treatment as it provides structure and expertise from a skilled clinician to deliver treatment, while also meaningfully including the client in their treatment to promote buy-in and provide autonomy. The client will also work with clinicians individually in scheduled 1:1 sessions three times per week. Clinicians come from a range of educational backgrounds and have advanced skills in different modalities, including but not limited to EMDR, somatic therapies, and proficiencies in treating specific addictions (e.g. gambling, SLA, etc.). Primary care clinicians and clients are matched based on best fit.

Clients who complete an inpatient or virtual treatment program receive 6 months of virtual aftercare. Family members of clients in treatment have access to a free six-week webinar series.
