Introduction to Surface Diamond Driller Program
The Introduction to Surface Diamond Driller program is designed to provide participants with a strong foundation in the surface diamond drilling industry. Participants gain practical knowledge of drilling operations, equipment, safety procedures, and field practices while developing the skills required for entry-level employment opportunities in the mining and drilling sectors.
Program Highlights
- Gain essential knowledge of surface diamond drilling practices.
- Learn how to properly use and maintain drilling equipment and tools.
- Understand the role and responsibilities of a drill helper.
- Receive both classroom and hands-on field training.
- Be prepared to pursue employment opportunities within the drilling industry
- Industry-specific mental health training.

- Operate various pieces of drilling equipment.
- Conduct inspections and perform routine maintenance tasks.
- Apply classroom theory in real-world scenarios.
- Develop job-ready skills valued by drilling and mining employers.
Common Core and Industry Standards
This program is designed to provide training toward Ontario Common Core (770200) requirements and National Occupational Standards. Training includes instruction and assessment related to the five mandatory modules required to work in Ontario’s surface diamond drilling industry:
- U0669: Follow Surface Diamond Drill Induction Procedures
- U0652: Work Safely in a Surface Diamond Drilling Environment
- U0653: Operate Hand and Power Tools
- U0668: Protect the Natural Environment
- U0670: Perform General Lock Out and Tag on Prime Movers and Other Related Equipment
Important Certification Information
The training provided is training toward Common Core certification. Successful completion of this program does not, by itself, complete the Common Core certification process. Common Core sign-off must be completed by a company with signing authority.
Once participants begin working for an employer, that employer becomes responsible for acting as the signing authority and confirming that the required workplace competencies have been demonstrated. Authorized drilling companies complete and submit the required Modular Training Application (MTA) and Modular Training Report (MTR) forms to finalize the certification process.
- Program Length: The length of the program will be determined based on the number of students enrolled. The program will include 3.5 days of field training, with daily hours from 8:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Depending on enrollment, the program duration may vary, with a maximum length of 17 days.
- Credentials Earned: Canadore College Certificate, MiHR Certificate, CDDA Mental Health Certificate.
