CDDA Mentor Spotlight: Jordan Iannone — Leading by Example in the Field and Beyond

The Canadian Diamond Drilling Association is proud to launch our new Mentor Spotlight series: celebrating individuals in the industry who are making a lasting impact through their commitment to safety and leadership.

For our first feature, CDDA Membership Services Coordinator connected with Jordan Iannone, President of Hardrock Diamond Drilling Ltd., to request him to reflect on his journey and legacy and share his story with our membership. Jordan’s dedication to building a safety-first culture and mentoring future leaders has shaped a resilient, purpose-driven team and left a lasting mark on the industry.

From High-School Helper to Founder

Jordan started in the drilling industry straight out of high school in 1988, working as a helper on what’s now the Mt. Milligan Mine. Jordan noted that, “From the start, I was drawn to the challenge of the work and the camaraderie of the crews. Within a few months, I set my sights on building my own drill company someday.”

Over the next decade, Jordan gained hands-on experience across Northern Canada, Central and South America, Africa, and Southeast Asia, working in both surface and underground drilling. Jordan noted that, “I moved up from helper to driller, and eventually into supervisory roles, learning the business from the ground up and earning the respect of the teams I worked with.”

Building Hardrock Diamond Drilling

In 2004, Jordan founded Hardrock Diamond Drilling Ltd. with one drill and a clear goal: to build a reliable, hardworking team capable of delivering high-quality drilling in some of the most demanding environments. Since then, they’ve grown into a trusted operation with a fleet of surface drills and a strong reputation across BC, the Yukon, and beyond.

Safety as a Culture, Not a Checklist

At the Canadian Diamond Drilling Association, safety is a top priority. With that in mind, our Membership Services Coordinator asked Jordan how he ensures safety remains central to his operations. His response was clear:

“Safety is a top priority —not just a box to check, but a core part of how we operate. Years in the field have taught me that a strong safety culture protects our people, keeps our projects moving, and builds trust with clients.”

Mentorship and Leadership Development

Jordan further noted that, “Just as important, I believe in developing leadership within the company. We focus on mentoring, training, and building up the next generation of drillers and supervisors who take pride in their work and lead by example.”

Looking Ahead

Our Membership Services Coordinator thanked Jordan for his dedication to safety and leadership, as well as for upholding the values of the CDDA. She then asked him what he’s most looking forward to as he looks to the future of his company:

“With over 35 years in the industry, I’m proud of what Hardrock has become and excited about the future. We’re committed to growing with purpose, building strong relationships, and delivering quality work, safely, consistently, and with integrity.”

The Canadian Diamond Drilling Association extends our sincere thanks to Jordan for his dedication to the diamond drilling industry and his continued support of our association. We look forward to spotlighting more mentors who are making a meaningful impact in the field.

Hardrock Diamond Drilling is also hiring Driller Helpers, if you are interested in a great opportunity with this company you can visit the following Job Post: https://www.jobbank.gc.ca/jobsearch/jobposting/44691575?source=searchresults
