Industry Trainer – Training Course 

The CDDA is pleased to be partnering with the Mining Industry HR Council (MiHR) to deliver an Industry Trainer training course. This occupational training opportunity provides in-class foundational training and hands-on/applied practical activities focused on developing the skills and competencies of an Industry Trainer in the mining and diamond drilling sector! 

Duration/Dates: Monday, November 20, 2023 9:00 am -3:00 pm 

Tuesday, November 21, 2023 9:00 am – 3:00 pm

Wednesday, November 22, 2023 3:00 pm- 6:00 pm (following the Eastern Safety Meeting)

Location: Sudbury, ON 

Lodging Information: Quality Inn Conference Centre,  390 Elgin St, Greater Sudbury, ON P3B 1B1

Participant Fee: $500.00 includes meals and beverages and required course material.

Industry Trainers play a critical role in mining. They train new employees to become safe competent and productive employees. They provide continuous training necessary so that existing employees can learn new equipment, or new procedures, and they support and reinforce safety protocols so workers can enjoy an accident-free work environment.  

MiHR’s Industry Trainer training teaches the skills and competencies required to develop, upskill, and provides advancement opportunities relevant to both emerging and experienced workers. This course adheres to MiHR’s National Occupational Training Standard’s Learning Outcomes and Objectives and is covered over 10 modules: 

  • Create Training Requirements Based on Needs 
  • Teaching and Learning Methods 
  • Designing and Updating Training Plans 
  • Delivering In-class Foundational Training 
  • Facilitating Hands-on/Applied Practical Learning 
  • Maintaining Training Records 
  • Training Coaches or Mentors 
  • Managing Your Own Development  
  • Performing Competency-Based Assessments and Evaluations 
  • Managing Training Logistics 

About the Instructor:

Paul Gosselin is the owner and a Health and Safety Consultant specializing in mining, construction and diamond drilling/exploration.

Paul recognized deficiencies in the diamond drilling industry, noting that health and safety pro­grams were lagging behind those of other industries. His vision to remedy the situation has made him an industry leader, admired and recognized by major companies that have entrusted Paul to develop their specialized safety protocols.

Paul has developed unique, progressive training courses, which include classroom, online and on-site modules, into­ grating leading-edge technology with a user-friendly paperless system for uncomplicated use in both the office and on-site. He has modified existing programs to optimize the benefits to workers and employers. Paul created courses training for diamond drillers and helpers. Areas of training include hazardous materials, bear awareness, fire safety, lighting safety, injury management WHMIS and more.

Paul used to be a diamond driller, he understands the hard work and the challenges that requires on the remote camp.

This knowledge allows him to anticipate potential issues well before they can become problematic, as well as the correct ways to speak to the team on the field to be able to get the best results.

Paul is always approachable, giving 100%, he knows the mining industry and its strengths and deficiencies from the ground up.
