2023 National Day of Truth and Reconciliation

As we approach September 30th, we urge our members to join us in wearing orange shirts in support of the 2023 National Day of Truth and Reconciliation. This day aims to recognize and honour the indigenous children who were removed from their families and forced to attend residential schools across Canada. It is our responsibility to show solidarity and support for those who have been affected by the intergenerational trauma caused by residential schools.

Wearing an orange shirt is a meaningful way to demonstrate that you stand in solidarity with Indigenous Peoples. It is an excellent opportunity to start discussions and educate others about the impacts of residential schools on Indigenous communities. You can help bring awareness to this important issue and support the process of reconciliation by wearing an orange shirt and sharing the significance behind it.

CBC is also offering a lineup of Indigenous-led original programming showcasing First Nations, Métis and Inuit perspectives and experiences across all platforms and in a live special on September 30th.  https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/how-to-watch-coverage-national-day-for-truth-reconciliation-1.6600668

To learn more about the significance of wearing an orange shirt and what you can do to support the 2023 National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, we invite you to visit the following websites:

https://orangeshirtday.org/

https://reconciliationcanada.ca/

https://www.canada.ca/en/canadian-heritage/campaigns/national-day-truth-reconciliation.html.

We must continue to work towards reconciliation, and our actions can start with wearing an orange shirt on September 30th and participating in the various Truth and Reconciliation events and activities throughout Canada.
