For the second consecutive year, the Canadian Diamond Drilling Association (CDDA) was proud to recognize outstanding individuals in our industry through the CDDA Appreciation Safety Awards at the 80th CDDA AGM and Convention this year in Quebec City, May 25-27, 2025. These awards highlight members who exemplify excellence in safety leadership, innovation, and implementation across the diamond drilling and exploration sector.

Each year, CDDA members are invited to nominate peers who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to safety, whether through groundbreaking technology, creative safety documentation, specialized training initiatives, or successful incident prevention strategies. After careful review, we are pleased to announce this year’s recipient of the Supplier Appreciation Safety Award.

Supplier Appreciation Award – Gus Minor, Sofvie

This year, the CDDA was proud to honour Gus Minor, Chief Operating Officer of Sofvie Inc., with the 2025 Supplier Safety Appreciation Award—a recognition that celebrates individuals who have made significant and lasting contributions to workplace safety within the diamond drilling and exploration sector.

Gus was selected for his unwavering commitment to improving job site safety and his advocacy for the essential role leadership plays in building and maintaining a culture of safety. His influence extends well beyond his daily work—Gus has become a respected voice in the industry, frequently speaking at conferences, panels, and professional development events, where he emphasizes the connection between strong leadership, open communication, and safer outcomes on the ground.

With more than a decade of hands-on experience, including time spent working underground, Gus brings a practical and informed perspective to every challenge he faces. His career has been shaped by a deep understanding of the physical and cultural realities of high-risk work environments, and his leadership style reflects a strong belief in collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

In his current role at Sofvie Inc., Gus has played a pivotal role in helping organizations across the industry implement forward-thinking tools and strategies that improve communication, enhance data-driven decision-making, and support a proactive approach to health and safety. His work focuses on empowering teams, building accountability, and creating workplaces where safety is not just a policy, but a shared value.

Through his leadership, insight, and drive to make a difference, Gus has helped shape a safer and more resilient industry. The CDDA congratulates Gus Minor on this well-deserved recognition and extends its sincere thanks for his continued dedication to advancing safety, strengthening culture, and supporting the well-being of the diamond drilling and exploration community.
