The 81st CDDA AGM & Convention May 24-26, 2026 in Victoria, BC is proud to announce Jason Heltcher Specialist, Newmont Exploration Drilling as one of this year’s featured speakers. He will present ‘ Shaping the Future of Drilling: Aligning Standards for Safety, Efficiency, and Performance’.
Jason Heltcher is one of four Exploration Drilling Specialists with Newmont Global Drilling Services, supporting drilling programs across the globe with a focus on safety, productivity, and cost‑efficient delivery of reserve and resource growth. With more than 20 years of experience in underground and surface diamond drilling, Jason has worked across a wide range of challenging environments, including deep underground operations, remote exploration sites, and technically complex ground conditions.
Jason began his career in the field and progressed through roles as a drill helper and operator, supervisor, field operations supervisor, and owner‑operator of his own drilling consultation business, giving him a practical, end‑to‑end understanding of drilling operations from both the contractor and client perspectives. He has held management roles with Boart Longyear, founded and operated his own drilling consultancy, and now works closely with multiple drilling business partners to implement leading practices across Newmont’s global exploration portfolio.
He is a strong advocate for safer drilling through innovation, including mechanical rod handling, live‑work controls, standardized governance, and data‑driven performance tracking. Jason is also actively involved in contract development, contractor engagement, and the advancement of drilling standards to improve safety outcomes and operational consistency across the industry.
