NORCAT’s Common Core Training is delivered at NORCAT’s office in Sudbury, ON and the NORCAT Underground Training Centre in Onaping, ON. Courses include Basic Underground Hard Rock Miner, Basic Underground Hard Rock Miner Service Type, Surface Miner, First Line Underground Mine Supervisors and Generic Supervisors.

Northern College: Underground Hard Rock Miner Common Core
Northern Training Division has partnered with Kidd Operations to offer the new Underground Hard Rock Miner Common Core program through the Northern School of Hard Rock Mining. Participants enrolled will complete a modular training program designed to ensure that all of the core competencies identified in the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development (MAESD) Modular Training Standards for Underground Hard Rock Miner Common Core are completed.

Confederation College Mining Techniques
Confederation College’s Mining Techniques one-year certificate program gives you the basics of working in the mining industry. The program touches on a variety of subjects including prospecting and surveying, mine development and operations, open-pit and underground mining methods, types of ore bodies, and computer-aided design (CAD). You’ll also learn other skills you’ll need to succeed in today’s mining industry including occupational health and safety, team building skills, supervisory skills, and computer skills.

Canadian Driller Training Ltd Common Core
The province of Ontario has the only recognized Common Core program for surface and underground diamond driller certification in Canada. It is recognized by Newfoundland, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia, the Northwest Territories, Yukon and Nunavut.

Infrastructure Health & Safety Association Surface Miner Common Core
The Surface Miner Common Core is designed to meet the legislated requirements of the first three modules of the Surface Miner Program. Main topics include, Safe work practice, Lockout/tagout procedures , Safe operation of hand and power tools. It is important to note that to become fully accredited by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU) under the Surface Miner Program, participants must return to their workplace and demonstrate their skills and their understanding of the company’s specific requirements—including government legislation, company standards, and manufacturer specifications—to a qualified trainer and be signed off and registered with the MTCU by their company’s signing authority.
