The CDDA is pleased to announce that the North Bay Machining Centre is the CDDA’s Manufacturer Member of the Month for December. Our Membership Services Coordinator connected with the company to learn more about their history, services, and the people behind their success.

How did North Bay Machining Centre get started and how has the company evolved?

North Bay Machining Centre began in 1997 machining In The Hole Tools (ITH) and Boyles 12HH Chuck components for the exploration industry, specifically for JKS Boyles. This grew to encompass most of the large Canadian exploration OEMs in northern Ontario: Epiroc, Di-Corp, Pilot Diamond and Boart Longyear.

Notwithstanding Exploration, we now machine for many other industries: Forestry, Mining & Construction, Blasting, Agricultural, Hydro-electric and we’ve recently begun machining for the US Navy as we are Controlled Goods certified.

What products and services does North Bay Machining Centre offer?

North Bay Machining is strictly a machining company that offers: Turning, Milling, Boring, Threading & Tapping.

We offer 2-axis turning, 2-axis with live contouring, 3-axis milling with a 4th axis indexing head as well as 9-axis multitasking. We’ve recently brought a robotic cell online for large batch machining.

We offer some welding when it is part of building an assembly for machining. NBMC takes care of any finishing like Black Oxide, Heat Treat, Powder Coating, Centerless Grinding or Nitriding.

Who are the people behind North Bay Machining Centre?

The strength of North Bay Machining Centre lies in its people. The company employs 26 individuals, including 7 ticketed machinists with a combined 150 years of experience. Most of our team are highly capable CNC machine operators, supported by a robotic engineer who helps drive innovation and efficiency through automation. North Bay Machining Centre is also committed to training the next generation of skilled trades professionals. We regularly take on machining apprentices from Canadore College, Georgian College, and Conestoga College, contributing to the development of future talent in the machining and manufacturing sectors.

Why is CDDA membership important to North Bay Machining Centre?

Being a member of the CDDA is important to North Bay Machining Centre because it provides opportunities to connect with other companies active in the diamond drilling industry. Membership helps us stay engaged with the sector that formed the foundation of our business, build relationships, and continue to support the exploration and drilling community through the high-quality machining services we provide.

The CDDA would like to thank North Bay Machining Centre for their continued support of our association and would like to congratulate them for being named a December Manufacturer Member of the Month.
